Teves Mark II ABS
#1
My ABS light came on in my car. The pedal is soft as well and the brake light will occasionally come on during repeated brakes. I ordered the 3000psi tool off fleabay and will check the accumulator pressure, as you can still get the accumulator, but my guess is it's the hydro unit which is all in one.
The OEM P/N is 10112685 , which of course is NLA and not found anywhere.
Cardone used to have a rebuild one, for just over $1k, they still do for some other ones. It was 12-3409 for this car , but is NLA from them anymore. They have a couple other very similar units for the Reatta and a Caddy/Rivera/Toronado, 12-3411 and 12-3415.
The pedals got that same as any other blown master feel to it, I'm sure it's a $2 seal internally.

There is one company that claims to have a rebuilt one for this car. But I'm not sure about them. Invasion products. They have bad reviews as well, so I dunno. Plus I really don't want to spend that amount of $$$. http://www.invasionautoproducts.com/19po60steanl.html

They used these on a few vehicles, GM, Ford & Chrysler, the Ford Thunderbird from the era , their forums seem to have the most info on these units.

Anyone dealt with the Teves Mark II before? If cardone can rebuild it, I should be able to as well. Not sure though.

This is the 12-3411 for Rivera/Toronado/Eldorado/Seville of late 80's early 90's. Mine looks the same, more or less.

I bought this special tool J35604 ($9 on fleabay) required from the service manual in hopes mabey it was the accumulator. Nope. It's the hydro unit. Tool is just a 3000psi gauge and hose the magic is the special fitting on the end that fits in place of a bolt on the unit.

If anyone is looking, there's a guy on eBay that has the "master cylinder" portion of the Teves ABS unit used on 87-90 A-Body's according to my GM parts book (which only goes up to 1990 because it's the pontiac book), it may fit other A-body's with the Teves ABS unit.
It's GM Part# 10112685 . Listed in the parts book as good for 87-90 A-bodies with the Teves ABS

Well, I finally took on this ABS project. I knew there was a reason I was delaying it. What a royal PITA. There's not much room around there because they jambed that giant unit in where a master cylinder of 1/4 the size normally sits.

First there are 6 electrical connectors all of different style and design. Three have wire bails of which two you literally need to pick those off, the other with wire bail just pinches closed. The 4th connectors just pulls off. Then the two on top of the reservoir are normal clip style. Then

Then I had to get the brake pipe out the front of the unit off. That took special toothed ratcheting crow's feet as flare wrenches were just spreading.

Then the ABS valve block is held on by 1 bolt and two long studs, you could try to leave this on and remove this with the master but that would mean have to remove the three brake pipes on the bottom of that on, and there's almost no way to get to those especially if your gonna have to fight them which I would because they're somewhat rusted. That means I removed the bolt and the two stud nuts, slide the ABS valve block over as much as possible and sawzalld' the studs in half (the new master has new studs).

Then the two main bolts that hold the unit to the firewall attachment felt like they were gonna break so I ended up spraying those down over the course of a couple days to help it and ensure I didn't break them. To get to these you need to remove the reservoir and the accumulator (make sure to depressurize it first!)

Then..the master is loose, but.the pushrod is held in by a lip inside the backside of the master and getting that off...royal pita, but it comes.

And finally it's off. Now I just need to transfer over the motor and other bits to this new master and re-install it. But I may opt to remove all the brake lines and go have them copied by Inline Tube (which is only an hr away from me) , they'll scan and copy these exactly in stainless for a couple hundred bucks.

It was five days at 2-3hrs/day fighting to get this master off. Wow.
